EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech in Blacksburg offers Greek-letter service organizations that hold recruitment events in fall and spring, giving students a chance to form close communities through volunteer work (as seen with Omega Phi Alpha and others). Collegiate Times
- ➤ Virginia Tech is testing whether learning to DJ can ease ADHD symptoms by enrolling 60 students in a four-week study that splits participants into DJ workshops and a control group watching hip-hop videos. Researchers track brainwaves+ mood and focus as part of the non-drug therapy experiment that pays participants $100. WSLS 10
- ➤ Virginia Tech will test its VT Alerts system on Feb. 5 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. — the test will check alerts via email, text, phone calls, X posts, and outdoor sirens to keep the campus safe. Collegiate Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Three public meetings are scheduled this week on housing and a medical education project. On Monday at 7 p.m., Christiansburg will vote on rezoning 37 acres at 300 Kimball Lane for 53 homes, and Tuesday meetings will review a 28-unit apartment complex and VCOM renovations at 1701 Kraft Drive.
