- ➤ Ryan Pollyea and a team of geology students have been working to develop new methods to store industrial carbon dioxide underground by pumping it two miles below the surface; their research published on Jan. 21 aims to reduce harmful atmospheric effects from emissions. Virginia Tech News

- ➤ Roanoke Blacksburg Regional Airport is running dry runs and equipment checks as it prepares for winter storms. The operations team is testing snow removal procedures on-site—lining up plows in a conga line—to keep runways clear and ensure safe flights. WSLS 10
