- ➤ On Jan. 16, the Patrick County Public Animal Shelter rescued 11 yorkies and terriers from neglectful conditions and Angels of Assisi spent the weekend cleaning, grooming and treating them in Blacksburg. The dogs are not yet available for adoption and updates will come soon. WSLS 10

- ➤ Heritage Arts tattoo parlor has opened at 302 Radford St in Christiansburg today. Owner Mark Delano built a full-size Star Wars TIE fighter that draws visitors plus he plans to showcase it at local parades and events supporting children’s charities. News Messenger
- ➤ A Christiansburg car dealership was damaged by a fire yesterday and is now planning a rebuild. The dealership said restoration work will begin soon and operations are expected to resume once repairs are complete. WDBJ7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools named a new superintendent on Jan. 20. The district will soon begin transitioning under new leadership to support students. WDBJ7
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The New River Resource Authority (regional solid waste and recycling authority) was recognized by Virginia DEQ with a VEEP award for outstanding environmental performance during its December board meeting in Richmond. Joe Levine accepted the honor and said the agency improved regional environmental practices. News Messenger

- ➤ On Jan. 20, Hometown Health shared local wellness tips, featuring advice from the YMCA, National Blood Donor Month reminders, and protein-rich recipes from the Virginia Egg Council. The update offers residents practical guidance for healthy habits. WDBJ7
