GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Del. Liz Guzman introduced House Bill 415 to designate pawpaw as Virginia’s official fruit in an effort to boost local production and awareness. Co-patron Del. Joshua Cole said the measure could help grow this native, nutrient-rich fruit + support historical agriculture. Cardinal News
- ➤ Virginia legislator JJ Singh (D-Loudoun) has introduced a bill that would form a work group to review transparency in student athlete endorsement deals, following concerns over Virginia Tech's disclosure practices. The study will be presented by Nov. 1 to guide future practices for state universities. Cardinal News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ January is National Blood Donor Month and local centers are encouraging residents to donate blood to help save lives+ they invite donors to check with local hospitals for scheduled drives during the month. WDBJ7
- ➤ The American Red Cross is asking locals to donate blood or platelets by Jan. 25 to help ease shortages during National Blood Donor Month, and donors will be entered into a giveaway for a trip to Super Bowl LX (NFL-sponsored). WDBJ7
