- ➤ Local First Lego League teams from Blacksburg earned awards at a tournament held at Blacksburg High School in December and advanced to the state championship at JMU (Jan. 10-11). The event was co-hosted by New River Robotics Association along with two local robotics teams. News Messenger

- ➤ Virginia Tech's Bill Roth earned his 13th Virginia Sportscaster of the Year award after 32 seasons covering Hokie football, while VT wrestlers claimed titles at the Southern Scuffle. The achievements highlight a proud legacy for our local sports community. News Messenger
