Celebrating Ten Years of Handmade Music School & Our Songbook Project!

Saturday, November 21, 2026 · Floyd, Virginia

A decade ago, a simple idea took root in Floyd: that our music, dance, and tradition build a stronger community. Since then, the partnership between the Floyd Country Store and the Handmade Music School has flourished, passing traditional music down to the next generation. Today, that vision has grown into a vibrant network of students, teachers, musicians, and neighbors of all ages coming together to keep Floyd’s cultural heritage thriving.

Join us as we look back on ten incredible years and celebrate everything happening today!

This special event will focus on the debut of our student-created song collection and production project, generously funded by Virginia Humanities . We will feature and reveal the actual book, the public radio programs we produced and the archive developing at Music of our Mountains website ( musicofourmountains.com )

Event Highlights

• Music & Dancing: Live performances to fill the room and get everyone moving.

• Songbook Project Reveal: The debut of our student-created song collection and production project, generously funded by Virginia Humanities.

• RadioIQ Public Radio Feature: A special look at our Songbook Project stories airing on NPR affiliate RadioIQ, featuring student interviews with local master musicians.

• Short Documentary Premiere: A anniversary film celebrating the people and community behind our founding vision.

Looking to the Future

Ten years of music is something to celebrate, and the next ten are ours to build together. Throughout the evening, you’ll have opportunities to contribute to the Share The Music Scholarship Fund , ensuring financial barriers never keep anyone from learning and playing music.

Bring your family, your friends, and your dancing shoes. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
