Program: S pring in the Arizona and Utah Backcountry: 900 Miles of Hiking and
Learning to Bird by Emily Reisinger
In spring of 2026, experienced backpacker and new birder Emily hiked the 800-mile Arizona Trail and also backpacked through slot canyons and narrows in southern Utah. Emily will discuss the unique pleasures and challenges of long-distance backpacking in Arizona and Utah, from top-notch sunrises and sunsets to questionable drinking water sources. She’ll share photos and stories of the scenery, birds, and other wildlife she encountered during her two and-a-half month trip.
